Opening Lecture Held for the 2026–2027 Academic Year at Edremit Vocational School

At Balıkesir University Edremit Vocational School, the Opening Lecture for the 2026–2027 Academic Year was held with the broad participation of academic and administrative staff as well as students.

The program was attended by Deputy Mayor of Edremit Mr. Metin TUNÇER, Director of Edremit Vocational School Prof. Dr. Gülşen AYDIN KESKİN, Chairman of the Board of Balıkesir Industrialists and Businessmen Association (BASİAD) Mr. Selçuk SAVAŞ, academic and administrative personnel, and numerous students.

Following a moment of silence and the recital of the Turkish National Anthem, the event proceeded with the opening speech by Prof. Dr. Gülşen AYDIN KESKİN, Director of Edremit Vocational School.

After the opening address, Selçuk SAVAŞ, Chairman of the Board of BASİAD, delivered the opening lecture titled “Industry Expectations on the Journey from School to Professional Life.”

In his speech, Savaş emphasized that alongside professional knowledge and technical skills, attributes such as work discipline, a sense of responsibility, communication skills, keeping pace with technology, problem-solving capability, and a mindset of continuous learning are crucial for students to prepare more strongly for their careers after graduation. Drawing attention to the industry's need for qualified technical human resources, Savaş stated that engaging more actively with the sector during their education and making effective use of internships and practical training opportunities are essential for the students' career development.

The program, which made a significant contribution to fostering university-industry collaboration, allowing students to learn about business expectations directly from sector representatives, and helping them prepare more consciously for post-graduation career pathways, was followed with great interest by the students.

At the end of the program, Mr. Selçuk SAVAŞ was presented with a certificate/plaque of appreciation in honor of the day and in gratitude for his contributions.

The event concluded with a group photo session featuring protocol members, academic and administrative staff, and students.
