The
Department of Machinery and Metal Technologies at Balıkesir University Edremit
Vocational School has been a pioneering educational unit that has added value
to the industrial vision of our region and country since its establishment,
crowning theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Today, as a
representative of an academic structure that combines the strategic importance
of the Edremit Gulf with technical education, I am excited to share our goals
and values for the future with you.
At the heart of our educational philosophy at
Edremit Vocational School is the "learning by doing" model. The
Department of Machinery and Metal Technologies is not just a classroom
environment where technical knowledge is transferred; it is also a dynamic
workshop where design is transformed into production, and metal into art and
technology. We continuously update our curriculum in line with the suggestions
of our stakeholders to cover the transformation processes required by
technology.
Our
student-centered approach aims to bring each of our students to the profile of
"qualified technical personnel" needed by the sector. Our training in
fields such as computer-aided design (CAD),
computer-aided manufacturing (CAM),
and computer numerical control (CNC)
technologies ensures that our students are ready for the workforce the day they
graduate. For us, success is not just about awarding diplomas; it's about
instilling in our students the confidence to transform their technical drawings
into tangible parts on a workbench.
Our academic vision is fully aligned with Balıkesir University's principle
of "Serving society through science." In a region like Edremit, which
is open to development in terms of logistics and industry, we aim to produce
graduates who closely follow technological advancements, have internalized an
R&D culture, and possess well-developed analytical thinking skills.
The 3+1 On-the-Job Vocational
Training model, successfully
implemented in our Mechanical Engineering department, is one of the most
concrete examples of our applied education approach. Through this model, our
students spend a significant portion of their studies directly within the
sector, gaining professional experience, learning work discipline on-site, and
increasing their employment opportunities after graduation. These practices,
conducted within the framework of university-sector collaboration, both
strengthen our students' professional competencies and contribute to the
development of qualified human resources for regional development.
Our Mechanical Engineering department considers contributing to the social,
economic, and cultural development of the region as one of its fundamental
values. Through collaborations developed with local governments, public
institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations, our students
are offered internship, applied training, and employment opportunities; at the
same time, our school's academic knowledge and consultancy capacity are shared
with the region. This approach is a natural reflection of our understanding of
serving society and the country.
We attach great importance to
accreditation and quality assurance studies in order to guarantee the
quality of our education processes. These ongoing studies are carried out in
line with the principles of transparency, participation, and accountability;
and contribute to the development of our education quality in accordance with
national and international standards. This quality-oriented approach has become
an institutional culture in our college.
Our students actively participate in the scientific production process,
particularly through projects developed within the scope of TÜBİTAK 2209 programs, and gain and are
encouraged to acquire academic competencies such as project writing and data
analysis. The research activities conducted within our department are not
limited to theoretical articles. Our studies in areas such as materials
science, welding metallurgy, and optimization of manufacturing processes
directly aim to increase productivity in industry. The technical capabilities
of Edremit Vocational School, combined with the expertise of our academic
staff, produce scientific solutions to the technical problems faced by local
businesses. In this process, we involve our students in our research projects,
enabling them to become acquainted with scientific methodology while still in school.
Internationally, we expand our vision through Erasmus+ exchange programs
and technical cooperation networks. We adopt a European standard of technical
education quality to ensure that our graduates are preferred individuals in the
global labor market, not just locally.
Our graduates work in public
institutions, various fields of the manufacturing sector which is the
locomotive of exports, in engineering fields through vertical transfer exams,
and some in the academic world.
